The Asagimadara butterfly migrates 2,000 kilometers across Japan, navigating toward destinations programmed into its body but unknown to its individual consciousness. This two-part olfactive documentation, created for an exhibition on ecological preservation in Kyoto (2025), follows the journey. Kita captures the ascent from frozen Hokkaido landscapes—crisp air, volcanic earth, pine forests lifting toward inherited memory. A butterfly begins a journey it will not complete, carrying coordinates for a place it has never seen.
