LOOKING FOR LANGSTON, THE FILM
Released in 1989, "Looking for Langston" is Isaac Julien's groundbreaking meditation on Black queer desire and the hidden histories of the Harlem Renaissance. The film explores the private world of Langston Hughes (1902-1967) and his contemporaries, breaking down traditional divisions between art forms to reveal the intersections of race, sexuality, and artistic expression. This fragrance was created in concert with the film's 30th-anniversary retrospective at Tate Britain (2019).

Issac Julien is an accomplished filmmaker and video installation artist. His multi-screen installations and accompanying photographic works for museums and galleries explore fractured narratives of memory and desire, often uniting elements from dance, painting, sculpture, theater, and music. His 1989 film, Looking for Langston is a poetic treatment of gay black poet Langston Hughes and the Harlem Renaissance. His multi-screen installations, A Marvellous Entanglement (2019) traverse a collection of Lina Bo Bardi's most iconic buildings; offering a meditation on the work and legacy of the visionary modernest architect and Ten Thousand Waves (2019) investigates China's ancient past and changing present through interwoven narratives.
