Adam Linder left the Royal Ballet at twenty-one and spent years away from ballet's strict vocabulary. Then he came back—not to resurrect it unchanged, but to operate on it. Loyalty (2021), his ballet in three acts set to the music of British avant-garde band Coil, moves through three distinct worlds: Act I is monochromatic and strict, a well-oiled machine. Act II is naked and crude, fleshy and brutal. Act III is luscious and warm, a polyamory of partnering. Each act has its own physicality, its own temperature, its own scent. The fragrance translates devotion: what does a dancer's loyalty to form—practiced daily, abandoned, then reclaimed—smell like?

Adam Linder works with choreography in multiple formats; his pieces are often presented on stage or in an exhibition space. Linder’s practice focuses on the specifics of dance and how the medium relates to notions of value, desire, technology and collective psyche. At age of fifteen, Linder was scouted by The Royal Ballet School in London and left Australia to pursue a career as a dancer. Linder’s rigorous early training was later consolidated during formative years spent performing with Michael Clark Company and Meg Stuart’s Damaged Goods where he developed the critical and experimental strands that inform his choreographic work.
